Seinfeld and Rules of Engagement alum Patrick Warburton is set to star in the upcoming Netflix drama A Series of Unfortunate Events, playing the central role of narrator Lemony Snicket.
The new show focuses on orphanage children Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, who struggle to free themselves from the clutches of Count Olaf as he pursues their family fortune. This role was previously played by actor Jude Law in the 2004 film, which garnered fairly positive reviews and made over $200 million at the box office.
Lemony Snicket is a troubled writer-photographer framed for various felonies, leading to an ongoing hunt by both police and his enemies alike. The latter includes a secret organization known as Volunteer Fire Department, known for starting fires and routinely causing trouble.
Mark Hudis will helm the new series as showrunner while Daniel Handler, the books’ author, is set to serve as executive producer.
Warburton is currently in the middle of other projects, including the March debut of NBC’s Crowded, where the actor plays a prominent role. He was said to also be reprising his role as comic book character The Tick for Amazon’s upcoming reboot, though it is unclear who will star on the show at this time.
Other notable roles include NewsRadio, Dave’s World, Kim Possible (voice) and other shows over the years.
A Series of Unfortunate Events co-stars Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Neil Patrick Harris. The show is slated for a 2016 premiere, though no exact date has been announced.
