The popular IFC show mocking hipster millennials is going to pull the plug in 2018 according to its creators, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein.
A seventh season for 2017 and an eighth season for 2018 is all but confirmed by IFC. So emphatic is the network’s president Jen Caserta that she insists the television company will “do this show until there’s no more show to do,” according to NME.com.
While a date was set for the popular character sketch show to close it’s curtains, creator Carrie Brownstein was careful to say that it was an ending of Portlandia was only in “this iteration,” which which leaves the door open for some kind of holiday special or character spin-off.
The show has heavy musical influences owing to the fact that both Brownstein and Armisen are musicians with a long history playing music. Brownstein is front woman of the Riot Girl band Sleater-Kinney and Armisen plays in the 8G Band, which is the resident band for Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Its 6th season is currently filming and boasts a litany of beloved celebrities including Steve Buscemi, Jeff Goldblum, as well as members of the Meat Puppets and the Flaming Lips and most notably rock god Danzig. Buscemi even guest directs an episode in this newest season which is set to air spring 2016.
