Inspite of experts warning people tom exercise due restraint while expressing themselves over social networking sites, some people fail to understand where to draw the line. A girl from the internet era, who goes on Twitter @Cella, was fried a day before joining her job at a pizza parlor when she took to the micro-blogging site to express dissatisfaction over it. In what can be termed as a classic retort, the future employer turned the tables against her and fired her via a tweet.
On Feb. 6, Friday, the girl tweeted, “Eww I start this [f$#% a*%] job tomorrow,” The tweet was followed by seven “thumbs down” emojis.
When another employee tipped off the would-be boss, the owner of the pizza parlor, Robert Waple, that social media was abuzz with his new hire’s misgivings, Waple wasted no time. He logged onto his seldom-used Twitter account to say: “No you don’t start that FA job today! I just fired you! Good luck with your no money, no job life!”
The nasty tweet and the subsequent sack o the social site become an instant online hit with the Twitterati.
Then came Cella’s: “I got fired over Twitter.”
Meanwhile, the story spread and the unpleasant scandal made her “famous” in Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahamas, Nicaragua, Argentina, Venezuela, Italy, Malaysia, Chile, Peru and others. She even got 1,000 new followers as a result of the ugly spat.
According to Cella’s Twitter feed, radio stations from around the country were asking to interview her on the air yesterday. While the girl might have become an overnight celebrity (largely because of her future boss’s reaction), she would do well to keep a sane head over her shoulders and make the best use of her new found fame to find herself a decent job.
