Felicity Jones to play Lead Role in ‘Star Wars’ Standalone film slated for December release

There is word that actress Felicity Jones, Oscar nominee, has landed a starring role in the upcoming spinoff of Star Wars film. Details of the film are still currently sketchy, but Jones was one of the several actresses that were sought for the lead role in the movie.

The other female names that met to take up a lead role in stand-alone Star Wars movie include Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara. Jones, a high-profile name in the movie circles, will star in the film, which is slated for release on December 16, 2016.

The Star Wars spinoff movie will be directed by Gareth Edward of Godzilla and the script written by Chris Weitz, who replaced Gary Whitta as the screenplay writer. Disney and LucasFilm, which are involved in the Star Wars stand-alone movie project, have currently kept things very secret, and it remains unclear what other main characters will be involved in the movie.
