Google Nexus 8 Turns Out to Be LG G Pad Google Edition…Red Faces All Around

You can’t blame us all for grasping at straws – it’s not like Google is giving us much to chew on as far as the Nexus 10 2 is concerned. So really, the fact that we made up a device we decided to call the Nexus 8 a few weeks ago shouldn’t come as much of a surprise…the sad truth being it’s now been completely debunked.

Sure they could have put us all out of our misery long before now, but where would have been the fun in that?

When a tablet appeared in a Google promo that was too small to be the Nexus 10 2 and yet bigger than the Nexus 7, we of course knew it was the Nexus 8 in all its unannounced glory. And it all seemed to make sense – a gap-filler to sit between the two Google slates we already know and love, or maybe even a replacement for the Nexus 10 that never quite caught on as well as its smaller sibling.

Turns out thought we were barking up quite a number of wrong trees – the Nexus never has existed and probably never will – say hello instead to the snappily-titled LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition.

With a little hindsight this of course makes even more sense – why bother with a pure-Google Nexus 8 when a pure Google 8-incher from LG will do the job just as well? That goes double if it is indeed LG that’s behind the Nexus 10 2 as rumored – suddenly the Nexus 8 begins to look as far-fetched as it apparently always was.

As for the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition, it will be the usual story of the very same device though in this guise running a pure and untouched version of Android 4.4KitKat with no tweaking or addition UI slapped on top of it…as some folk seem to like. This means a solid slate of the highest order with an 8.3-inch 1920 x 1080 HD screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor under the hood, 16GB of closet space and 2GB of RAM.

Exactly when the anti-Nexus 8 will go on sale and for what price remains to be seen, so keep your ear to the ground if it tickles your fancy.
