The phablet market is booming with success as Samsung commands the majority share. However, that did not stop companies to fear entering the market for the first time, which is probably the reason the Apple iPhone 6 Plus is born.
Samsung’s latest phablet device comes in the form of the Galaxy Note 4; a handset that is seen by many has the best Android mobile device of 2014. But that’s not important right now, as for the first time Apple and Samsung are battling for dominance in the phablet market, and we’d like to find out which device is better.
Both handsets launched with a lot of positive reviews to follow, so let us finally take a look to see how they stack up.
The most important aspect of a tablet is its display. It’s what sets it apart from regular smartphones, and the main reason why folks are clamoring to get their hands on the best and latest phablet.
The iPhone 6 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080×1920. The LED-backlit screen makes for one of the best display screen on a mobile device, as expected from a premium Apple handset.
However, Samsung managed to come out on top with a larger 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440×2560. The screen appears to be much brighter when compared to the iPhone 6 Plus, and it also has a better visibility under direct sunlight. Apple steps into the phablet market with a device that comes with a super-fast 64-bit processor and 1GB of RAM. The processor runs at 1.4GHz, and with iOS 8 being an operating system that is well optimized, the iPhone 6 Plus is able to perform really well.
Still, despite the fast performance, many fans were disappointed to find out the device only comes with 1GB of RAM. In all honesty, this should not be an issue because iOS 8 is not RAM hungry, and that is evident in the device’s performance.
In the camera department, Apple chose to go ahead with an 8-megapixel camera. Don’t let the small amount of megapixels fool you, because it takes exceptional photos and videos at 1080p 30fps. The Cupertino giant have shown time and time again that it knows how to bring a great smartphone camera to market.
On the matter of the Galaxy Note 4, well, it blows the iPhone 6 Plus out of the water where hardware and camera are concerned. The handset is packing a fast 2.7GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. That is triple the amount found in the iPhone 6 Plus though it is still difficult to tell which is faster in day-to-day operations.
The Galaxy Note 4 also comes with a 16-megapixel camera at the rear and a 3.2-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies and making video calls.
Both devices are great for what they bring to the table. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Note 4 in our mind is the better investment here due to the a more powerful hardware and the amount of options available with the Android operating system. Still, those who prefer simplicity above everything else, might want to look towards the iPhone 6 Plus.
