India vs England ODI, T20 series 2014: Sanju Samson, Karan Sharma in India squad

Starting off on August 25, 2014, India will play a series of five ODIs and one T20 International against home team England.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has declared the final team ahead of series on August 5, 2014 via a media release on the official website of BCCI.

The new and exciting entrants in the team include Karn Sharma, the Railways allrounder, and Sanju Samson, the Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman. New chance also comes for Dhawal Kulkarni, who had missed the series against West Indies last year, owing to injury.

Also included in the 17 squad is Suresh Raina, Mohit Sharma and Umesh Yadav. Sharma and Yadav are expected to lead the team in fast bowling department. Sadly, leg-spinner Amit Mishra had to be ruled out due to injury.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Virat Kohli (Vice-Captain), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Stuart Binny, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, Sanju Samson, Karn Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Umesh Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni.

Among the new youngsters, the 19-year old Samson has been great with the bat both in IPL 2014, where he played for Rajasthan Royals and in Under-19 World Cup. Sharma is expected to cover up for Amit Mishra.

Then, of course, there’s pace-bowling-all-rounder Stuart Binny, but the committee has left out Cheteshwar Pujara. Also missing out on the action is Dinesh Karthik and Yuvraj Singh.

The first match between Indian and England is scheduled on August 25, 2014 at Bristol, following which there are matches to be held at Cardiff, Nottingham, Birmingham and Leeds. There is also one T20 that is scheduled for September 7, 2014 in Birmingham.
