Nintendo is joining the VR race

Nintendo has perked up to the idea of a virtual reality gaming system according to a Tech Times report. Nintendo could be another potential pioneer in reacting to the VR fanfare, predicted to eventually reach a $120 billion market share. The gaming company is poised to launch a novel smartphone application punctuated by a new gaming system, the Nintendo NX, slated to be showcased at the upcoming E3—a technology and electronics exposition—event in June.

While Nintendo’s smartphone game roll-out is up to speed, the VR rumors are more uncertain, according to Dr. Serkan Toto, a technology analyst. Nintendo announced earlier in 2015 that it would release a total of five mobile games by March 2017, on the heels of recent partnership with DeNA, which has controlling interest over certain mobile game developers.

According to market reports, Nintendo’s potential VR venture would boost its lagging performance. Net profits have been falling 36 percent year-on-year to $241 million on $1.8 billion of revenue. Of this quarter, Nintendo sold 1.87 million Wii U consoles, a lower performance than the same period last year. Analysts suggest the company’s dropping profits are because of the console’s unappealing name, which failed to racket up holiday sales.

Nintendo asserts that their newest Nintendo NX will be a stunner, but it’s unclear whether it will be ready for purchase within the year. Nintendo’s VR prospects follow the new platform’s intriguing specs.

Not surprising, Apple announced that it would be creating its own iteration while Microsoft is still tinkering around with their HoloLens.
