Female killer whales led and help the group in finding food

According to a new study, female killer whales are better leaders than the male members of the community. They led their group after menopausal and help the younger members find food without any hassle. Few days initially, young members of the group are not capable of kill their prey. Older female whales in the group teach the younger ones to attack and survive without putting their lives in danger.

Females Tend To Live Longer:

The excellent leadership quality of female whales helps them live longer than males. As per the study, killer whales live forty years longer than the males due to their knowledge of food and different ways to survive. The study was led by Lauren Brent and Darren Croft from the University of Exeter. Primary objective of the study was to find out the evolution of menopause in killer whales. All the findings of this study were published in the prominent journal ‘Current Biology’ recently.

While talking to reporters, Brent stated that this study was the first to demonstrate the reasoning behind long life of killer whales. According to him, the wisdom that young whales get from the elder ones, help them live for a long time after they stop reproduction. Researchers took into consideration the data of last 35 years available at the Center for Whale Research. They conducted research on 102 killer whales to reach this conclusion.

The study revealed that aged whales are more likely to lead the group during the time when salmon abundance does not mount as much as early days. The wisdom that younger members of the community gain from elders can explain clearly that female killer whales and humans live for very long time even after they stop reproduction. The result of this study will help the scientists in taking their research about extended human lives to newer heights.
