Microsoft Updates Windows Defender to remove Lenovo’s SuperFish Adware

Lenovo Group Ltd (PINX: LNVGF) laptop owners by now should know about the SuperFish adware the company chose to add to its consumer PCs beginning last Fall. The adware is causing a huge problem, which is the reason why Microsoft has stepped up to help PC owners get rid of it.

According to Microsoft, the company has updated its Windows Defender anti-virus system to get rid of SuperFish. Folks who bought a Lenovo PC between September and December are the ones who need to get down with Windows Defender to get rid of the adware once and for all.

Filippo Valsorda, a security researcher at Microsoft, noted that Defender will remove Superfish and the SSL certificates that allows it to operate. This is a great move from Microsoft as the company continues to impress with its latest flurry of compelling actions.

Recently, Lenovo announced that it plans to release a tool that should remove every aspect of SuperFish from all affected Lenovo computers. Up to this point, the company has not released an update on when computer users can expect the tool. So until that happens, Lenovo PC users will have to make do with Windows Defender or go to the extreme by completely wiping their computers.

The most advanced computer users who own a Lenovo PC would have likely wiped their system clean and reinstall a fresh version of Windows. But yet, this task is not for everyone, so we are happy Microsoft could allow Windows Defender to completely eradicate SuperFish by just a few clicks of the mouse.

How to run Windows Defender?

That’s easy; just type Windows Defender in the search bar and click the name when it pops up. From there, the user will then need to click on the button that says scan, and watch the magic happen before their eyes as SuperFish slowly disappears.
