Pixar, the prominent animation studio that brought us Finding Nemo and other popular flicks over the years, is set to make a new animated film each year. This is the result of a creative decision to use its technology to bring new, life-like characters to the big screen.
Pixar’s most successful endeavors are sequels to their original movies, including Finding Dory and Toy Story 3.
Pixar president Jim Morris takes pride in their original films, some including Up and Wall-E, and makes him believe they should focus on bringing new concepts and characters to life.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Morris said, “Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don’t make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on.”
He continued y adding: “A sequel in some regards is even harder than the original because you’ve got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can’t disappoint on. Our plan had been to make an original every year and a sequel every other year, if the idea came forth to do it.”
Two more sequels are completed and will be released, which include another Toy Story film and a follow-up to The Incredibles. He added, “Everything after Toy Story and The Incredibles is an original right now.”
One of its most recent films, Finding Dory, has raked in an estimated $570 million.
