Chris Hemsworth says working on ‘Ghostbusters’ was intimidating

Chris Hemsworth, who is part of the cast of Ghostbusters, admits working beside four female stars was a bit nerve-wracking. Hemsworth plays the receptionist for the Ghostbusters group, played by funny ladies Melissa McCarthy, Kristin wig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

The 32-year-old actor opened up about his role, saying, “It was initially (intimidating), then it was just hard trying not to laugh. I just kept cracking up.” Hemsworth was also new to working with a director like Paul Feig, who allows his cast to use a lot of improvisation.

In an interview with News Shopper, he said, “I was really nervous. I kept getting told ‘the scenes are coming, we’ve got to rewrite some scenes’ because there wasn’t much of my character in the script. There just wasn’t much of a character. I got to Boston the night before I’m shooting and I’m like, ‘I’ve still not got the script, what am I doing?”

He elaborated further by adding, “I said to [Feig] ‘I’ve still not got the script, what do I do for you tomorrow?’ He said ‘Don’t worry, we’ll work it out’. Everyone kept saying that’s his method and you get on set and he just keeps the camera rolling and the girls start improvising, he’ll yell suggestions and you keep going, you crack up, you try and hold together. And it is endless reels of chaos. But it is so much fun.” He finally enjoyed himself with that style of acting.

He also explained how much fun the uncertainty of it all turned out to be, adding, “It is quite liberating. If it didn’t work, it was like ‘well it’s not my fault, you didn’t give me a script.’”

Ghostbusters opens July 15, with audiences already divided due to casting choices and overall direction. However, many of the original cast members will make an appearance in the new installment.
