Scientists say this type of drug can increase risk of heart disease, especially for diabetics

A new study suggest that blood pressure drugs might be hazardous for diabetics with low pressure.

According to Tech Times, typically diabetics have high blood pressure, so they are often offered blood pressure drugs to alleviate their troubles.

The authors of the study checked out previous research and unpublished patient records to figure out the effects of antihypersensitives, blood pressure medications, in people with diabetes.

The study included a total of 73,739 subjects, most of whom were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Patients with systolic blood pressure of 140 mm Hg showed a decreased risk of heart attack, stroke and death. However, in patients with a systolic blood pressure of less than 140 mm Hg, low blood pressure, the risk of death due to cardiovascular disease rose.

The results of the test were only confirmed for patients with type 2 diabetes — the study’s authors made it very clear that they cannot conclude if the drugs affect people with type 1 diabetes.

The study’s authors emphasize the importance for health officials and doctors to monitor for over-treatment. Not only that, it signifies how vital blood pressure treatment is as a whole.
