Snoop Dogg visits Flint, Michigan mayor to talk water

This past weekend, rapper Snoop Dogg performed at a “Flint Lives Matter” concert held in Detroit, but before going to the show he made a surprise trip to Flint itself, and sat down with mayor Karen Weaver to talk about water and how he might be able to help with current water crisis. The two talked for over an hour, discussing ways the star can help.

Weaver said she appreciated the conversation, and that Snoop Dogg “wanted to get a thorough understanding of how long this has been going on and what’s been happening.” Weaver said the rapper was not interested in just distributing water, but instead wanted to talk about what he could do to support the people of Flint.

“I’m a busy man,” Snoop said. “I could have been anywhere, but I chose to be here today and it’s about choices.”

He said he now has a lot of information that he can take back to celebrity friends and people around the world who want to help the community, but said mainly they’d “like the governor to step up and do what’s necessary to make sure Flint is taken care of.”

When asked why Snoop Dogg was interested in Flint, since he has no ties to the community, Weaver said he responded, “we do have ties, we’re people.”

According to Weaver, she plans to stay in contact with Snoop Dogg while some as yet unspecified actions are put in motion for the city. The two are planning both immediate and long-term action. Weaver says he has “signed on for the long haul.” She said they don’t want attention right now – they have needed it for a long time. Now that they have that attention they can’t let it go away, as “the impact is going to follow some of our kids and families for the rest of their lives.”
