When you are too tired or just too busy to read a Kindle book, but have to have get it done anyway, call on Amazon Echo. The wireless speaker and voice command device will do it for you.
However, Amazon Echo has a robotic voice, which may not be to your liking, and according to engadget.com, “you obviously can’t expect the narration’s quality to be on par with a professional voice actor’s reading for Audible.”
On the plus side, Amazon Echo will read almost any thing that was purchased from the Kindle store, Kindle Unlimited, the Family Library and Kindle Owner’s Lending Library. The 9.25 inch tall cylinder speaker responds well to its name, “Alexa,” and will also play your music.
The device will pause, play, stop and resume, although it is a bit fuzzy on skipping chapters. It will skip on command, “but you can’t specify which chapter to skip to,” according to a ZD Net review.
The voice assistant can also read Wikipedia or a news article to you, “using the same text-to-speech technology for all these tasks.”
Not only will Echo’s Alexa read and play music for you, she can control compatible light switches, and receive commands from across the room even when her “voice” is fully engaged.
The one redeeming feature about the robotic voice is that the feature is available for free.
