Oculus and Samsung making VR affordable

Samsung’s new Gear VR headset made by VR pioneers Oculus will now be much more accessible to the masses at a $99 price point. Previous Gear VR versions were double the price at $199 and worked with less Samsung phones, the new Gear VR will work with all of Samsung’s 2015 line of phones.

The Gear VR was debuted at the Oculus connect conference and will be available around in time for the 2015 holiday shopping season according to a TechCrunch report. This new more accessible version will also have improvements from previous models, such as being 22% lighter and easier to wear as well as a tactile directional pad improving on the smooth version in previous models.

Many in the tech world are still awaiting Oculus’s flagship product the Rift, but this version will be far more accessible to the masses because it does not require an expensive gaming computer to operate. The Gear VR will also come with a very familiar Xbox style controller as well.

This is a great advance in the accessibility of VR technology which is a big part of the future of technology.
