Amtrak train derailed in Philadelphia, killing six and injuring dozens

PHILADELPHIA – An Amtrak train derailed late Tuesday throwing away the cars and injuring several people on board. Reports suggest that six passengers have been found dead so far, along with a complete disruption of the services in the North East region of the country.

With 243 passengers on board the train originated from Washington and was headed to the New York, however, at around 9:30 PM Tuesday, it derailed throwing the cars attached to it high in the air.

Casualties have been rushed to the two nearest hospitals, whereas, the rescue teams were searching from car to car for any casualties. A majority of the passengers have suffered minor and major injuries, whereas the remaining few lost their consciousness due to the impact.

Injured passengers were taken away from the crash scene to the two nearest hospitals, Aria Health, and Temple University Hospital. Officials at the Aria Hospital said that they are treating nearly 59 patients, out which few were the walk-ins. The later one didn’t had any count of the patients, however, responded as quickly as to help the patients.

Herbert E. Cushing, the chief medical officer of Temple University Hospital, said that one patient died overnight and the treatment of remaining few is in progress. There have been reports of fractures and minor injuries.

“It is an absolute disastrous mess,” Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael A. Nutter said, “I have never seen anything like this in my life.”

Officials reported that the train cars are overturned, and there is a lot of debris containing sharp objects around it. The conditions are horrible, and it’s unsafe for the both the rescuers and the passengers trying to get out of the cars.

There were about six cars and one engine in the train, however, except one all of them were overturned. The last car in the train wasn’t intact either, it was crushed and bent just like any normal tin can.
