‘Go Red For Women’ kicks off at the national wear red day in the US

In the honor of the National Wear Red Day, a plethora of heart ailment survivors have chosen to share their detailed journeys – the ins and outs, the vagaries and phases of depression and turmoil, the silver linings, how heart disease affects women and the ways to survive with a renowned TV channel, CBS2 today. The idea is to raise awareness about the increase rate of inflicting heart based ailments to womenfolk across the US.

‘Go Red For Women’ is an awareness drive, that is underway across the Long Island. It is aimed at highlighting the myriad of other bodily ailments like High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Blood Pressure and weight gain and depicts how they impact in enhancing the cardiovascular risks.

Portia Rindos – Case Study

The awareness drive summarily exemplified the lifestyle of Portia Rindos—a 58 year old lady who almost submitted to a cardiovascular disorder. She was rushed to a hospital and a cardiac pacemaker was surged into her body to help the heartbeat; moreover, she had two stents. Soon after she relocated to the North Shore, had a holistic lifestyle change aided with regular exercises and healthy eating habits in order to keep her healthy. Rindos exemplified a lady who succumbed on the first place at the outset, but chose to lead a different, healthy life altogether to survive the fatal battle with a smile!

Technological Advances Tackles Cardiovascular Disorders

Ruth DeMartino, who is slated to celebrate her 89th birthday in March, survived a cardiovascular disorder that took away her vocal endurance. However, she obtained a tiny valve (heart valve) with pig skin, which helped her to attain vocal endurance. She can now sing out loud as was her stint with the USO during WWII. This minimally-invasive device takes one hour to put in a human’s body, and depicts that even in cardiovascular operations there has been purported paradigm shifts!

February – The Heart Health Month

Heart disease is pretty commonplace amongst women; yet in 80% of the cases, untimely death is preventable. One needs to be cautious, health conscious and find a doctor every time one faces any issues. February is the Heart Health Month; hence, the ‘Go Red For Women’ campaign shall continue throughout February 2015.
