ARM Holding Cortex-A72 to solve heating and battery issues

ARM Holdings today announced a brand new processor that is expected to solve the problems of the struggling mobile market. Introducing Cortex-A72, ARM promised to deliver faster and battery efficient performance on the devices that may boast this A72 on their boards. A72 takes nearly 75% less energy and is a perfect match for graphic and computing intense processes.

One important aspect of the new Cortex-A72 is how it eliminates the heating problem in the devices. According to the company A72, produces minimal heat, and keeps itself cool even when performing intense computing tasks. The 64-bit architecture makes it future proof, and support for the backward compatibility can help it run apps that were designed for 32-bit processors.

Going deep into the technical details, Cortex-A72 offers performance 3.5 times more than the previous Cortex-A15 processors. It is the one that reduces the power consumption by 75% and produces minimal heat in the devices. When compared with the Cortex-A53, it was found that the processor lead it by nearly 1.9 times the performance.

Cortex-A72 just like the A53 can also be used with big.LITTLE configurations, with A53 cores on the side. According to the company, the setting can boost the power efficiency by 50%. The new Cortex-A72 is also capable of processing tasks that are usually executed in the cloud. Tasks such as voice recognition and more can now be easily done on the device itself, which can easily produce faster and efficient results.

However, after knowing about the mind-blowing performance of the device, manufacturers started to worry about the royalty ARM Holdings is going to ask for. Since, the company does not the manufacture the chips on their own, but takes the fee equal to the selling price, vendors are worried if they will be able to install them on budget smartphones that usually go on sale in South Asian countries.
