Fox’s Empire, Grace Gealey and Episode 4 review

FOX’s hip-hop drama series Empire is becoming a fast hit, as its ratings keep rising over the first three weeks. The series has also been renewed for a second season, just after two successful episodes. Empire has succeeded to develop a quick fan base, with people tweeting about it during its airing.

FOX’s Empire keeps churning out one after the other great episodes, and there is plenty to watch besides the great Lucious/Cookie scenes. It seems to be one of the most entertaining shows in recent times.

In Episode 4, Lucious’ intention was to keep Empire relevant ahead of the IPO. While he is betting on Hakeem to make more music, he is also considering other artists to help the label. Titan is the biggest rapper in the Empire, and he is what Lucious needs and wants.

All of this Titan business creates some awesome scenes between Lucious and Cookie. The natural chemistry and flirting between them was on full display in the episode.

Grace Gealey is playing Anika Calhoun, head of Empire Entertainment A&R, in her first network TV role. Gealey is also shown to be the love interest of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) in the series. She is excited about the success of the show and its overwhelming reception among the audience.

Gealey expressed that the people will get to know a multi-faceted Anika, her intentions, her heart, how much she cares for Lucious and what the company means to her. She also talked about her experience working with everyone in a debut series, especially Terrence and Taraji.

Gealey also noted that all the actors take their characters very seriously and the creative team is also open to newer ideas and allows expression of individual thoughts. She has also done research on her own to understand the music industry and also get a change to interview the head of A&R, which she regarded as an eye-opening and enlightening conversation.
