BCCI begins squad revamp; Ravi Shastri named director of Indian cricket team

BCCI has spared no time in bringing on the intended rehabilitation for its ‘famed’ squad that got humbled on the England soil.

As part of the fire fighting measures, former cricketer Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the new director for the squad with effect from the ODI series to start on August 25.

According to First Post on August 20, although Duncan Fletcher would carry on with his term as the head coach, Ravi Shastri will have the full and final authority over the entire squad.

Shastri has also served as the interim manager for the squad that visited Bangladesh way back in 2007, following an early exit from the World Cup in West Indies.

Apart from these few new changes announced, the BCCI has also proposed a reconstruction in the supporting staff of the squad.

Former all-rounder Sanjay Bangar and pacer Bharat Arun will serve as assistant coaches.

Bowling coach Joe Dawes and the fielding coach Trevor Penney has been granted the ‘break’ and won’t be supporting the squad in the 5-match ODI series.

The BCCI also wanted R Sridhar to join the team as the fielding coach.

Sanjay Bangar was appointed following a decent successful tenure of his IPL campaign, coaching the Punjab Kings XI to the final, while Bharat Arun boasts the experience of coaching the under-19 squad earlier.

R Sridhar had served the U-19 squad as fielding coach and had shared good times in the same department for Kings XI.

The decision has been welcomed by experts, but many are still urging for revamps in other departments too.
