The auspicious festival commemorating the celebrated relation between a brother and a sister, Rakshabandhan is tomorrow, August 10, 2014.
The vow given by a brother to his sister is celebrated by a sacred thread that a girl ties around her brother’s wrist, receiving gifts and money in return.
The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar.
One of the famous legends concerns Rani Karnavati of Chittor who when realised could not defend her kingdom against attack by the king of Gujarat Bahadur Shah sent a Rakhi to Humayun who was busy in his own campaigns, but on receiving the sacred thread he immediately rushed to Chittor to honour the solemn bond.
