Always outspoken and undeniably influential, Mr. Shatner has insisted that the new famous-face-focused tool offered by Facebook is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
William Shatner is the kind of guy you just have to listen to, regardless of whether or not he has a clue what he’s talking about. Sadly for the folks at Facebook, his latest rant on the subject of a new social networking tool doesn’t paint the most positive picture.
The app or tool in question goes by the name of ‘Mentions’ and has been designed by the folks at Facebook to assist “actors, athletes, musicians and other influencers to discover and join conversations on Facebook.”
For one reason or another, the idea of the app appealed to the former Captain Kirk and he decided to put it through its paces. Suffice to say, it didn’t take long for him to decide it didn’t really cut the mustard.
“I’m not quite sure why Facebook released this app for ‘celebrities’,” he preached via Tumblr.
“It seems to be ill conceived. “I will probably use it to post to my Facebook when I’m on my phone but it doesn’t allow for mail or groups. I will continue to use my regular Facebook App as well as the Pages app.”
Of course it wasn’t as if he was taking aim at Facebook or in any way panning the service’s offerings – he just didn’t see what the point of Mentions was when the standard platform already covers all bases.
Still, Shatner has spoken.
