Despite having spent much of its life in pieces and scattered around wasteland, a rare Ferrari 375 Plus has sold at auction for more than any other Ferrari in history.
An incredibly rare Ferrari has sold for the highest price at auction ever paid for any Ferrari. Despite having been literally torn to pieces and slowly but surely rebuilt over several years, the 375-Plus went for a rather eye-watering £10.7, which translates to around $18 million given the current exchange rate.
A genuine piece of automotive history, the rare Ferrari took part in both the Mille Miglia and the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race in the very same year – 1954. It also sailed to glory at Silverstone in 1954 at the Sports Car Championship with Jose Froilan Gonzalez at the wheel.
A gorgeously desirable rarity from its very creation, there were only ever five examples of the 375-Plus in circulation in the first place. However, this particular record-breaker wasn’t always treated with the care and respect it deserved. In fact, it spent decades in pieces scatters all over the place in Cincinnati, where it sat for so long it ended up with a tree growing out of the engine bay!
The work done on the Ferrari to bring it up to its present condition was and is a truly remarkable achievement…and one that’s certainly paid off for its now super-rich prior owners!
