In a surprising and undeniably welcome contradiction to the vast majority of rumors and reports over recent weeks, an Android executive has confirmed that Google is still very much ‘invested in Nexus’ and is not in fact walking away from the brand.
It’s the news a million and one Nexus-addicts the world over have been praying for as of late – the brand is alive, well and for the time being at least, here to stay.
Despite dozens of reports suggesting that Google planned to do away with the Nexus hardware lineup once and for all in favor of Android Silver, word from the proverbial horse’s mouth suggests otherwise. In this instance we’re far happier to side with the comments of Google’s own Dave Burke, who told the good people at ReadWrite that to assume that Nexus is on its way out is to lose sight of reality.
“People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus,” said Burke.
“That is the totally wrong conclusion to make,”
And if that didn’t make it clear enough, he also stated outright that he and Google in general were “still invested in Nexus” which in a heartbeat doused all rumors of the hardware lineup biting the dust in the near future at least.
He went on to indirectly confirm that at least one new Nexus device is in the pipeline for a fall launch – most likely the Nexus 9 tablet PC…aka the HTC Volantis. Along with an 8.9-inch 2K Ultra-HD touchscreen and an NVIDIA Logan 64-bit Tegra K1 CPU, the Nexus 9 is likely to be the first device of any kind to ship with Android L right out of the box.
